Dirk Lönnecker has been a member of the Board of Management of Berliner Bau- und Wohnungsgenossenschaft von 1892 eG since 1998 and since May 2018 has been a founding member of the Board of Management of the first European cooperative LiM Living in Metropolises  SCE mbH. Internationally, Dirk Lönnecker belonged to the board EFL – European Federation for Living (EEIG) for three years and for several years he has been a member of LHEDCO Living in Eu-rope together Habitons l’Europe ensemble Société Cooperative Eu-ropéenne.

From 2001 to 2010 he was a member of the Association Committee of the BBU Verband Berlin-Brandenburgischer Wohnungsunternehmen e.V. and from 2004 its Chairman. At the GdW Bundesverband deutscher Wohnungs- und Immobilienunternehmen e. V. (Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies), he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Association Council from 2005 to 2011 and Chairman of the Finance and Audit Committee. He has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of DOMUS AG since 2008.

From 2007 to 2015, he was a member of the Board of Management of the Marketing Initiative of Housing Cooperatives Germany e. V. and Chairman of the Board of Management from 2012 to 2015. In 2014/2015, Dirk Lönnecker was active as a representative of the marketing initiative in the working group of the Hermann-Schulze-Delitzsch-Gesellschaft and the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Raiffeisen-Gesellschaft, which together formulated the application to UNESCO for the cooperative idea to be included in the list of intangible cultural heritage. The cooperative idea has been a World Heritage Site since November 30, 2016.
